Brno lies in the central part of Europe, in the Czech Republic and it is its second largest city. At the same time, it is the centre of the province of Moravia, one of the historic lands of the Czech Crown. It is situated at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, which for centuries have joined the North and South European civilizations.

Air services to Prague or Vienna are provided by all major airlines, e.g. CSA (Czech Airlines) or Austrian Airlines. To get to Brno from anywhere in Europe, you can also use regular train or coach connection. (You can search for the connection e.g. at Czech Railways, Buses). We recommend going by air. Regular international flights to Brno ( airport in Brno ) are only offered to/from London and Moscow; however, regular connection flight to/from Prague several times per days exist. In some cases it might be better to travel by air to Vienna Prague, or Bratislava. From Prague, Brno can be reached in three different ways:

Coach services:
Regular coaches from Praha-Florenc Bus Station to Brno-Zvonarka Bus Station. In Prague you should take bus number 119 from Praha-Ruzyne to "Dejvicka" underground station (called Metro in Prague). Then you should continue to "Florenc" station, use line A from "Dejvicka" to "Muzeum" and then use line C from "Muzeum" to "Florenc". From "Florenc" station you can take a coach to Brno. The price of local transport is ca. CZK 26 and the price of the ticket from Prague to Brno is ca. CZK 250. In Brno, you will arrive at the Brno-Zvonarka Bus Station. Some coaches also go to the Grand Hotel Brno (in the centre of the city).

NEW: Some buses to Brno depart from Praha-Ruzyne Airport. See Student Agency Express or Tourbus.
Czech Railways services:
The regular train connection from Prague to Brno. There are two railway stations from which direct trains go to Brno: the general railway station ("Hlavni nadrazi") and the "Holesovice" railway station ("Nadrazi Holesovice"). You should check the timetable in advance. In Prague you should take bus number 119 from Praha-Ruzyne to "Dejvicka" underground station (called "Metro" in Prague). Then you should continue to the general railway station, using line A from "Dejvicka" to "Muzeum" and then taking line C from "Muzeum" to the general railway station ("Hlavni nadrazi") or to the "Holesovice" station using line A from "Dejvicka" to "Muzeum" and then taking line C from "Muzeum" to the "Nadrazi Holesovice" station. The price of local transport is ca. CZK 26. The trains operate 24 hours a day and go from Prague to Brno approximately every three hours. The price is approximately CZK 320, and the arrival point in Brno is the General Railway Station (in the centre of Brno).

An alternative is to fly to Vienna (Wien-Schwechat airport). You can also continue to Brno by coach or train - take an airport coach to the Bahnhoff Mitte railway station and then continue by train or bus. Direct coach connection to Brno is twice a day only. Using a train, you most probably would have to change at least once.

There are no conductors on buses and trams. Tickets must be purchased in advance and validated by passengers upon entry. A one-way ticket costs CZK 22 in Brno and may be purchased in selected newsagents’ or tobacconists’ and ticket vending machines. For more info see Brno city public transport webpage.
You can, of course, also use a taxi. The usual fare is about CZK 20 per 1 km. It is advisable to agree on the price with the driver before taking the taxi. Be sure the taximeter is running while you are in the taxi. As is usual in many big cities, cab drivers sometimes prey on foreigners, who are unfamiliar with the language or currency.
